Summer houses with side shed – more info

Why buy a summer house with a side shed?

A summer house with an integral side shed makes sense for those with one suitable site and two usage requirements. Store all your lawn maintenance, garden equipment, bicycles and more in your shed and keep your summer house clear of clutter so you can enjoy all the benefits of a hobby room, office, or relaxation space in your garden. This is a space-saving storage solution that really does make sense.

How to paint a summer house

Before painting your summer house, first check the walls, roof, doors and windows for rot, damage, or water ingress and repair as necessary. Having ensured your building is in a good state of repair, remove any trims and ironmongery, or if that’s too tricky, carefully apply masking tape to protect any surfaces you do not wish to paint. Select a quality outdoor wood paint, preferably one which contains a preservative, and brush well into the grain. Leave to dry and apply more coats as necessary.

Can you insulate a summer house?

Depending on whether your summerhouse already comes with insulation or not, insulating a summer house is a task any competent DIYer can undertake. Insulation ranges from cost-efficient bubble wrap of foil-backed bubble wrap to rock wool, sheep’s wool, and at the pricier end, PIR board – also called by brand names like Kingspan and Celotex. Once you’ve fitted your insulation to the wall and roof of your summer house, panel over the top with plywood, hardboard, or plasterboard or for a warm rustic feel, tongue and groove pine.

Alternatively, leave the hard work behind and opt for one of our ready insulated summer houses. Suitable for all-year-round use, an insulated summer house offers double skinned walls as well as insulated walls, floor and roof.
